Eye research studies in Hamilton: register your interest

The New Zealand Eye Research Centre (NZERC) runs eye research studies in Frankton, Hamilton. We keep a register of people in Hamilton, the Waikato and the wider North Island who would like to hear about studies that may suit them or their children. Joining the register does not commit you to anything.

Research areas we are registering interest for

Myopia (short-sightedness) in children and teenagers

Studies of new lenses, drops and devices designed to slow the progression of myopia. These suit children and teenagers whose short-sightedness is getting worse, and sometimes children at risk who are not yet short-sighted.

Dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction

Studies of new drops and in-clinic treatments for dry, gritty, watery or tired eyes. These suit adults with ongoing dry eye symptoms.

Contact lenses and lens care

Studies of new soft, rigid, orthokeratology and scleral lenses and cleaning systems. These suit current contact lens wearers and sometimes people who have never worn lenses.

Keratoconus

Imaging and specialty lens studies for people with keratoconus or an irregular cornea.

Intraocular lens (lens implant) research

Measurement studies for people who are planning or have had cataract or lens surgery.

Why we do not list individual studies here

The companies that fund eye research ask us to keep their products and studies confidential until they choose to announce them. So instead of a public list, we match people on the register to studies as they open, and tell you about a study directly when it may suit you. Each study has its own eligibility rules and start date.

How to register

1. Go to the research participant form on our home page, or email research@nzerc.com.
2. Tell us the research areas you are interested in.
3. We contact you only when a study looks like a possible match, and you decide then whether to hear more.

What happens to your details

Your details are kept on the NZERC research register and used only to contact you about research. Health information is handled under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Health Information Privacy Code. You can ask to be removed at any time by emailing research@nzerc.com.
